Painting the Visual Landscape of Degenerative Vision

OpticCanvas is an interactive tool that lets you see the world through the eyes of someone with retinal disease. Using real-time image processing, it simulates visual distortions, colour loss, and reduced fields of view caused by conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Developed by Dr. Nuno Barros (Physics Department, Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics – LIP Minho), OpticCanvas is being expanded into a virtual-reality experience for public outreach and into an integrative educational tool for optometrists and ophthalmologists, in collaboration with Dr. Nuno Barros (LIP Minho & Physics Department, University of Minho) and with technical support from Dr. José Manuel González-Meijome (Optometry Department, University of Minho).
